This is Cedar. She is the most wonderful of all the dogs I've painted. Of course, she is mine! I took the photo I used for this painting the day we brought her home from the breeder. She was 7 weeks old that day. She was grubbing in the dirt before I snapped the shot and I thought that was appropriate for an "earth dog". She was so tiny...I look at that blue collar and it was so big on her then. It wouldn't reach half way around her neck now.
Cedar now has three titles in three venues of activities...conformation championship, novice obedience title, and junior earthdog Ch Cherrydachs Red Cedar CD JE. I've not been able to pursue anything else with her because of the art the last three years, but she is deeply loved and cherished and is well-spoiled.
She has many stories behind her, tracking and finding wounded deer, getting into a scrap with a squirrel that scarred her back, treeing a black bear in our yard...she lives the life many dachshunds would envy.
Last week we turned around on the trail in the woods behind our house to head home and walked right into a timber wolf. I'm very glad I always keep her on a flexi or I'm sure she would have been killed. We used to have coyote and fox around here, but now the wolves have taken over.
