This is Rudy.
Rudy is a Labradoodle. That is simply a Labrador Retriever crossed with a Poodle. They have become quite popular in recent years with some breeders working hard to stabilize type by breeding multiple generations. They are one of the many so-called "designer breeds" that are much sought after today.
Most Labradoodles will exhibit various degrees of a soft wavy or curly coat that continuously grows. A few, however, exhibit a wire-hair type of fur as you can see in Rudy's portrait. He actually looks very much like a German Wire-hair Pointer.
I was originally commissioned to do a portrait of Rudy as an anniversary present for my client's husband. However, they were so taken by the work, they commissioned me to do a second portrait as a gift for their daughter to take to college with her.
The husband enjoys hunting with Rudy, so this portrait was done with a background similar to an area that he likes to go hunting.
