This is: Vino & Brie.
For those not in the know, Vino is wine and Brie is a type of cheese.
A rather brusque, well-to-do large man requested me to do a portrait of his dogs. Expecting to see a photo of a large powerful type dog, I was surprised to see the photo he produced was of these two little Papillons. Appearances can be deceiving!
The only photo he had was a tiny framed photo, about three inches tall. The pup in the photo had passed away, sounded like from an injury to his legs. These tiny dogs can be very fragile. In any case, it was the only picture he had. The reference being so small, it made it a challenge to develop a full-size portrait. But those that are the most challenging to do are also the most satisfying when they are complete. I had fun re-creating the fake fur the two are sitting on and I changed the background to a green in order to complement their reddish color and give some depth to the painting.
