Interesting Facts About Morgan Horses
The Morgan horse is America's oldest recognized breed of horse. The breed traces back to a single progenitor named Figure, later named Justin Morgan after his owner Justin Morgan (1749-1789), a school teacher, who lived in Vermont. In 1961 the Morgan horse was named the official state animal of Vermont.
Morgan horses were used as cavalry mounts in the Civil Way. General Sheridan rode a Morgan named "Rienzi" and Stonewall Jackson a Morgan named "Little Sorrel".
A Morgan horse named "Comanche" was the sole survivor of the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
